Tales of Arise is the latest game from Bandai Namco's ingenious hand in the popular Tales series . The game is an open world ARPG (action rpg / roleplaying game), which lets you explore a beautiful open world, forcing you to fight in fierce battles, with a team of up to six different characters at a time.

Since Tales of Berseria came out in 2016, fans of the game series have been going and waiting; and now the wait is finally over.

 

Premise of the game - what is it about?

In the game you follow a dramatic story about two worlds that are in battle against each other. The two main characters, which we have described later in the article, form the front and center of the development of the story. Together, the two (and the friends they make along the way) must fight to strike the balance between their two worlds and beyond.

You spend time exploring the world, solving puzzles, gathering ingredients and resources, as well as fighting monsters and bosses.

Availability

Tales of Arise has been released on a lot of different systems. You can get the game for PC, Playstation 4 & 5 and Xbox One and Series X | S. Both the full game, as well as the demo (which we have linked to at the bottom of our page), can be installed and played on all these devices.

 

Need help getting better at the game and understanding its systems?

The game can be complex to figure out and get started with properly. In general, this game, like so many others, is starting to be easy, but the longer you play it, the more is required of you.

Easy to learn, but hard to master, as they say in the gaming industry. However, publishers are well aware of this, and they have therefore put together a series of guides on their website that can help you, no matter if you are a beginner or an expert.

The guides are designed so that you should be able to read your way through them all as long as you know the contents of the previous guides.

The Beginner's Guide introduces you to, among other things, how to control your character, how to attack, dodge attacks, and introduces you to boost attacks and boost strikes, which are two special attacks that the characters in the game either use themselves or with other team members.

If you are easily trained, then they have a guide that, among other things, goes in depth with the strengths of the different characters, and explains in more detail exactly what the different special attacks do. Here you will also be introduced to the various elements that you will struggle with or against in this world.

The experts are explained about 'artes', which is a progression system that lets you learn new attacks. There is also talk about the importance of combining attacks, as well as 'perks', which are special passive parts of the individual character's kit that can make them stronger or weaker in certain situations.

A sea of characters that can help you through your adventure

In Tales of Arise (both the demo as well as the full game) you will meet six characters that you can control, explore and fight as or with.

Each character uses unique weapons and is good at a certain thing, which means you will have to actively switch between them while fighting.

When you meet an enemy, there is a short transition (a bit like in Pokémon), which puts you in an arena, based on the area you met the enemy in. Here you start out as the self-chosen leader of the group, who can then combine attacks with other characters - you can choose between these six people:

Alphen

This warrior comes from Dahnan and suffers from memory loss. He is on a vengeance for his people and has a burning sword by his side; a smart weapon for a warrior who cannot feel pain and a symbol of the glowing hatred he has in him.

His attacks (artes) are fast and go well with each other, so you get a smooth fighting experience when you play like him. He is one of the main characters in the story, who cuts into the truth with his blazing sword attack.

Shionne

Shionne Imeris is the second main character - she comes from the Renan world and is thus Alphen's counterpart in many ways. Where the male warrior cannot feel pain, Shionne is cursed with an inner pain that is released to anyone who touches her, with fatal consequences.

Where Alphen is passionate and has a burning rage in her, Shionne is cool and has a royal aura over her that makes her barricade herself, as well as think and act rationally. She fights with a rifle and is both able to do great damage while being able to heal and help her friends in the heat of battle.

Rinwell

This young magician comes from Dahnan, but is still able to use Astral artes, which is a special kind of magic that only the Renan people thought could be accessed.

She casts spells away from the center of the battle and is able to use her knowledge and her magic books to save her friends. Her attacks take time to recharge, but can also do enormous damage in large areas.

Law

Law speaks with his hands; he is a champion of handball, who is quick on his feet and agile. He works actively for Rena's police organization called the Observations bureau. He fights face to face with his enemies, but moves so fast that he does not need large armor, but instead uses his physique to dodge any attack.

Kisara

400; "> Kisara is a female guard in Dahnan's military, but is also both feared and respected by Renan's soldiers for her immense strength. She uses a club and a large shield to protect her friends from attack on the battlefield. There is not that attack she would not take on if it meant she could end up saving a life.

Dohalim

This man is well educated and has, among other things, spent a long time studying music, poetry and antiques. He was born in Renan, but at the same time shows loyalty to Dahna. He struggles with a mix of wand attacks and astral artes.

He can both fight close to the enemy and at the same time jump away from the fight and heal or attack with magic. He is also strong in air attacks and can - in the middle of the fight - develop his weapon so that it becomes longer, can be thrown with, or can be used as a channel for his magic.

 

Beautiful graphics and smooth gameplay

The game looks like a cartoon, thanks to the design philosophy behind the game. In addition, the graphics themselves are also impressive, which is not exactly shocking, now that it is Unreal Engine, which has formed the basis for the game's production. The gameplay runs smoothly, despite the many effects and beautiful natural surroundings that you will get to know.

Other games that might be of interest to you

The Final Fantasy franchise is often faced with the Tales of Arise series, often because of their comparable worlds, combat systems, and anime style species. Thanks to Final Fantasy's many victories (especially Final Fantasy XIV) over the last few years, however, Tales of Arise does not reach these games in any way - but instead offers something distinctive, especially visual, in this latest game.

Genshin Impact also follows the anime-inspired visual style - if you like cute characters, fast-paced action-packed combat, beautiful graphics and a large, open world, then this will be the obvious game for you.

Conclusion

Tales of Arise is definitely a must try for those who have played (and enjoyed) the other games in the series. The game's combat system is fun and intuitive - and there's always something you can do; you never stand still when you fight monsters in this game.

The graphics are nice, although the cartoon-like filter that lies on top of the game is a bit of a matter of taste, in terms of whether you like it or not. The themes explored in this game are not exactly groundbreaking, but still give rise to laughter and heartbreaking segments if you like anime.

Even if you have not played the previous games, we would recommend you to try the free demo, which among other things lets you explore some of the world and try out the combat system, with all six characters and their special attacks.

3 GENERAL LICENSE CONDITIONS

The BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT Services may include measures to control access to the BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT Service, prevent unauthorized copies, or otherwise attempt to prevent anyone from exceeding the limited rights and licenses granted under this EULA. Any and all virtual goods are licensed to you on limited, personal, non-transferable, non-sublicensable and revocable basis and limited only for non-commercial use.
Please note that any payment for licenses for virtual goods or redemption of third party virtual currency is always FINAL AND NON-REFUNDABLE. Also please note that if you purchase Facebook Credits from Facebook, such transaction is governed by the agreement between you and Facebook and BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT is not a party to the transaction.
BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT may manage, regulate, control, modify or eliminate virtual goods at any time, with or without notice. BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT shall have no liability to you or any third party in the event that BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT exercises any such rights.

6 WARRANTY
6.1 Warranty for Physical software Products
BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT warrants to you (if you are the initial and original purchaser of the Software) that, to the extent the Software is made available to you on a physical storage medium, the original storage medium holding the Software is free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for 90 days from the date of purchase. If mandatory legislation in your jurisdiction requires longer in excess to the aforementioned 90 days, the length of the warranty is amended accordingly. If for any reason you find a defect in the physical storage medium during the warranty period, BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT agrees to replace, free of charge, any physical storage medium and related Software discovered to be defective within the warranty period as long as the Software is currently commercially distributed by BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT. If the Software is no longer available, BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT retains the right to substitute a similar piece of Software of equal or greater value. This warranty is limited to the physical storage medium and the Software as originally provided by BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT and is not applicable to normal wear and tear. This warranty shall not be applicable and shall be void if the defect has arisen through abuse, mistreatment, or neglect. Any implied warranties prescribed by statute are expressly limited to the warranty period described above.
When returning the Software subject to the limited warranty above, please send the original Software only to the BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT address specified below and include: your name and return address; a photocopy of your dated sales receipt; and a brief note describing the defect and the system on which you are running the Software.
6.2 No other Warranties
NOTWITHSTANDING THE ABOVEMENTIONED WARRANTY FOR PHYSICAL STORAGE MEDIUM SPECIFIED IN SECTION 6.1 ABOVE, AND TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMISSIBLE UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, THE BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED TO YOU “AS IS,” WITH ALL FAULTS, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, WITHOUT PERFORMANCE ASSURANCES OR GUARANTEES OF ANY KIND, AND YOUR USE IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK. THE ENTIRE RISK OF SATISFACTORY QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE RESIDES WITH YOU. BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT, BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT’S LICENSORS AND CHANNEL PARTNERS DO NOT MAKE, AND HEREBY DISCLAIM, ANY AND ALL EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY WARRANTIES, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF CONDITION, UNINTERRUPTED USE, ACCURACY OF DATA (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOCATION DATA), MERCHANTABILITY, SATISFACTORY QUALITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NONINFRINGEMENT OF THIRD PARTY RIGHTS, AND WARRANTIES (IF ANY) ARISING FROM A COURSE OF DEALING, USAGE, OR TRADE PRACTICE. BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT, BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT’S LICENSORS AND CHANNEL PARTNERS DO NOT WARRANT AGAINST INTERFERENCE WITH YOUR ENJOYMENT OF THE SOFTWARE; THAT THE BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS; THAT OPERATION OF THE BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT THE BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES WILL INTEROPERATE OR BE COMPATIBLE WITH ANY OTHER BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES OR THAT ANY ERRORS IN THE BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES WILL BE CORRECTED. NO ORAL OR WRITTEN ADVICE PROVIDED BY BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT, BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT’S LICENSORS AND CHANNEL PARTNERS OR ANY AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE SHALL CREATE A WARRANTY. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF OR LIMITATIONS ON IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR THE LIMITATIONS ON THE APPLICABLE STATUTORY RIGHTS OF A CONSUMER, SO SOME OR ALL OF THE ABOVE EXCLUSIONS AND LIMITATIONS APPLY ONLY TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW IN THE APPLICABLE JURISDICTION.

7 LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
IN NO EVENT WILL BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT, BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT’S AFFILIATES, BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT’S LICENSORS OR CHANNEL PARTNERS BE LIABLE FOR SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES RESULTING FROM POSSESSION, ACCESS, USE OR MALFUNCTION OF THE BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, DAMAGES TO PROPERTY, LOSS OF GOODWILL, COMPUTER FAILURE OR MALFUNCTION AND, TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DAMAGES FOR PERSONAL INJURIES, PROPERTY DAMAGE, LOST PROFITS OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES FROM ANY CAUSES OF ACTION ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THIS EULA OR THE SOFTWARE, WHETHER ARISING IN TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), CONTRACT, STRICT LIABILITY OR OTHERWISE AND WHETHER OR NOT BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT, BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT’S LICENSORS OR CHANNEL PARTNERS HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. FOR PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION 7, BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT’S LICENSORS AND CHANNEL PARTNERS ARE THIRD PARTY BENEFICIARIES TO THE LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY SPECIFIED HEREIN AND THEY MAY ENFORCE THIS EULA AGAINST YOU.
BECAUSE SOME STATES/COUNTRIES DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY, THIS LIMITATION OF LIABILITY SHALL APPLY TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW IN THE APPLICABLE JURISDICTION. THIS LIMITATION OF LIABILITY SHALL NOT BE APPLICABLE SOLELY TO THE EXTENT THAT ANY SPECIFIC PROVISION OF THIS LIMITATION OF LIABILITY IS PROHIBITED BY ANY FEDERAL, STATE, OR MUNICIPAL LAW, WHICH CANNOT BE PRE-EMPTED. THIS EULA GIVES YOU SPECIFIC LEGAL RIGHTS, AND YOU MAY HAVE OTHER RIGHTS THAT VARY FROM JURISDICTION TO JURISDICTION.
IN NO EVENT SHALL BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT’S, BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT’S AFFILIATES’, BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT’S LICENSORS’ OR CHANNEL PARTNERS’ LIABILITY FOR ALL DAMAGES (EXCEPT AS REQUIRED BY APPLICABLE LAW) EXCEED THE ACTUAL PRICE PAID BY YOU FOR USE OF THE BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES OR FIVE EUROS (EUR 5), WHICHEVER LESS.

8 OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS
TERMINATION: This EULA will terminate automatically if you fail to comply with its terms and conditions. In such event, you must destroy all copies of the Software and all of its component parts and cease and desist from accessing any BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT Services. With regards to Software delivered on a physical storage medium you can end this EULA by destroying the Software and all copies and reproductions of the Software and deleting and permanently purging the Software from any client server or computer on which it has been installed.
EQUITABLE REMEDIES: You hereby agree that if the terms of this EULA are not specifically observed, BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT will be irreparably damaged, and therefore you agree that BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT shall be entitled, without bond, other security or proof of damages, to appropriate equitable remedies with respect to your breach of any of the terms of this EULA, in addition to any other available remedies.
AFFILIATE: For purposes of this EULA, an “affiliate” or BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT means any legal entity that is directly or indirectly controlled by BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT for so long as such control lasts. Control shall exist through direct or indirect ownership of more than 50 % of the nominal value of the issued equity share capital or more than 50 % of the shares entitling the holders to vote for the election of the members of the board of directors or persons performing similar functions.
INDEMNITY: You agree to indemnify, defend and hold BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT, its partners, affiliates, contractors, officers, directors, employees and agents harmless from and against any and all damages, losses and expenses arising directly or indirectly from: (i) your acts and omissions to act in using the BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT Services pursuant to the terms of the EULA; or (ii) your breach of this EULA.
MISCELLANEOUS: This EULA represents the complete agreement concerning this license between the parties and supersedes all prior agreements and representations between them. BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT reserves the right, at its discretion, to change, modify, add or remove portions of this EULA by posting the updated EULA on BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT’s website. You will be deemed to have accepted such changes by continuing to use the BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT Services. If any provision of this EULA is held to be unenforceable for any reason, such provision shall be reformed only to the extent necessary to make it enforceable and the remaining provisions of this EULA shall not be affected.
GOVERNING LAW AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION. This EULA will be governed by the laws of United States of America without reference to its choice of law rules. The United Nations Convention for the International Sale of Goods shall not apply.
Any dispute, controversy or claim arising out of or relating to this EULA or the breach, termination or validity thereof shall be finally settled at BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT's discretion (i) at your domicile's competent courts; or (ii) by arbitration in accordance with the Rules for Expedited Arbitration of the Arbitration Institute of the American Chamber of Commerce. The arbitration shall be conducted in Sacremento, California, in the English language. YOU AGREE THAT YOU MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT ONLY IN YOUR INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING.
