Most people know it well. Suddenly, the computer becomes slower than a turtle, with a brick bound on the tail, your homepage is being changed, popups pop all the time and other unexplained things happen on your computer. These are typical symptoms of poor security on the computer. And in addition, they are less dangerous. For without security, even amateurs can do just about anything they want with your computer. This also includes theft of your contention and the use of your computer for illegal purposes. How do you secure your computer? Should you be on the safe side, save the downloaded programs to a CD, format your computer and install all before you go online again! If you do not, your computer may become infected as soon as you turn on the computer again. Unless you already have big problems with viruses, however, formatting may not be necessary, but it is recommended.

Update Windows
As a start, update your Windows. It is essential that you have the latest security updates, and as the smallest Service Pack 3, if you are still using Windows XP. Updates in general
To have the latest updates to their programs is Alpha Omega. Not just updates to your security programs like Antivirus and Firewall are important. There are sometimes programming errors in programs such as Messenger, Email clients, browsers etc. corrected with updates. If you can not fix these errors, they can be exploited by programs and malicious people who want access to your computer and online banking. Now, however, a free program has been made that ensures that your programs are always up to date. It's called Secunia PSI and you can download it for free right here.

Antivirus
The next step is to secure against viruses. This can easily be done efficiently and still for free. You just need to get a good Antivirus program. If you do not want to pay for it, there are, as said, several excellent free alternatives. We at Download Central.dk recommend Antivir Antivirus, which ensures you well and for free. However, it is not as presentable, efficient and professional as for example. Norton Security (Danish), but it will cover most needs.

Firewall
Now that you are protected from viruses, you must be protected as far as possible against hackers and theft of personal information and files. This can be safeguarded partly with a good Firewall. However, this is a jungle to find around. Many have used ZoneAlarm Free and are happy about it. However, our tests have shown that this free version can easily destroy more than it benefits. And if there is a problem, there is no help from the manufacturer, without payment, please feel free to contact. On the other hand, we only have a good say about Sygate Personal Firewall, which is also free to use. It provides a good security, good overview and is relatively easy to use. If you choose to install an application like Norton Security, you do not need to think of a Firewall as it is already included in the program. In recent versions, Windows also has a built-in Firewall that will meet most needs. However, several sources believe that Windows's own Firewall is in the weak end of Firewalls. However, you should never have more Firewalls running at the same time as it kills your computer and can cause conflicts. This also applies to Antivirus programs, etc.

Spyware
