10. Heroes of the Storm

Heroes of the Storm is a popular MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game developed by Activision Blizzard. Are you also tired of hearing about the negativity that has become synonymous with Blizzard over the last couple of years, then reminisce over better times by selecting your favorite heroes and villains from the Blizzard universe. Take World of Warcraft’s Arthas or Star Craft’s Kerrigan for a spin and slaughter the enemy D.va or Genji from Overwatch, in many iterations of battle arenas.

9. SuperTuxKart

This game will most likely feel familiar to most of you. It plays very similar to games within its genre such as the incredibly popular Mario Kart games. Mario has been swapped out, however, and instead, the game features the Linux mascot. You can unlock other riders as well, as you play. If you are over the regular races then there are also other game modes, such as time trials and a story mode for you to enjoy as well.

8. Tetris

Tetris has been a go-to game for relaxation and enjoyment since its original edition from 1984. Since then, the game has been updated in a plethora of ways. Do you miss the feeling of seeing your bottom row disappearing after creating a perfect match? Then hurry up and click the link above to download Tetris today - luckily with older games like this one, you do not need to run a speedtest on your internet before playing. Tetris takes things back in time to a simpler time where such things were not needed.

7. Nibblers

Nibblers is a funny mix-and-match style game akin to candy crush and other similar free games. In this game, you are collecting fruit while defeating enemies who are blocking your way. You will not experience the same level twice and certain levels introduce new kinds of obstacles such as goo which has to be wiped away before you can claim the fruit beneath it. Note that Nibbles is an iOS and Android only download - but with this game on your phone, you will have hours upon hours of fun in your pocket.

6. Angry Birds

Angry Birds is a classic. The characters (the birds) in the game are full of personality and have been designed in such a way that you intuitively learn what each type of bird does. In the game, you are flinging birds from a giant slingshot against green pigs who have built mini fortresses to stop you from catching their leader who has stolen your eggs. By using your wit and each angry bird to its full potential will allow you to make it far into the game, with nearly an endless amount of levels.

5. Smite

Smite is also a MOBA - but the developers have reimagined the MOBA genre in a style that sets it apart from other games within the genre, such as Heroes of the Storm and League of Legends. Smite moves from the top-down view of the bird perspective and instead moves the camera behind the god, goddess, or hero/heroine you choose to fight as. This can help make combat feel more dynamic and free flowing than some of the other entries but it also creates certain limitations graphics wise, hence why it is our fifth choice rather than our fourth one.

4. League of Legends

The fourth spot follows the generic genre limitations of the MOBA and in many ways is viewed as the MOBA in modern times. Not only is the game incredibly addictive and beautiful to look at - it also has a huge player base which means you will not have trouble finding teammates or opponents to play with and against. The roster of playable characters is constantly expanding and features many unique takes on classic archetypes and completely new character types. There is also a lot of story in this world - so it might pay off to read the characters’ background stories before playing as them.

3. Fortnite

Fortnite is published by Epic Games - and much like its publisher alludes to, this is in fact an epic game. The game is a Battle Royale meaning that you parachute into an arena with hundreds of other players to fight in a giant battle. You can either team up with friends or try your hand at single player gameplay.

Fortnite also sometimes collabs with artists and major trademarked material, leading to iconic concerts and characters entering the fray from time to time. So if you are tired of not being able to go to concerts due to COVID, then log into Fortnite and be first in line to an interactive concert experience with your fellow players.

2. Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact has solidified itself as a game to watch out for. The developers, miHoYo, pump out new content every 42 days. The new update patches allow players to explore new areas, characters, fighting styles, and stories. All of this without further cost - meaning the game is completely free. The game has a beautiful aesthetically pleasing design which makes you want to lose yourself in this digital world that feels alive.

1. Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy is the obvious first pick. Considering the scandals that have recently come out regarding Activision Blizzard, many players are leaving the company’s MMORPG World of Warcraft and are moving over to FFXIV. The reason for this being, in part, the fact that the current expansion ‘Shadowbringers’ is regarded by many as one of the best MMORPG experiences, if not one of the best games to come out in 2020.

In the latter part of 2021 the next expansion ‘Endwalker’ is set to launch, thus finishing the story that has been building up so far - and of course creating many new story lines to explore in future expansions.

This is the perfect time for you to try out Final Fantasy XIV with its free trial that lets you level from 1-60 without any additional fees.
