With PointerStick, a free download, you can turn your cursor into a presentation pointer—perfect for your next slideshow.
When you’re presenting—say in PowerPoint—it’s often useful to highlight exactly what you’re discussing. If you don’t have a physical pointer or laser pointer, PointerStick is a handy alternative.
After you download and launch PointerStick, it runs as a portable app with no installation and instantly turns your cursor into a pointer. You can customize its look with different patterns and colors (for example, red, gold, or aqua) and adjust transparency. Another nice touch: you can quickly toggle the pointer on or off with keyboard shortcuts. The only drawback is that the original mouse cursor never disappears while the program is active.
Overall, the app does what it promises. Whether a virtual pointer beats a physical laser is up for debate, but PointerStick is a smart little fallback—great for students, teachers, and presenters. There’s also a 64-bit edition, and both versions worked in our test on Windows 7 64-bit.
