Create virtual desktops on Windows with VirtuaWin — free to download.
One of Windows' long-standing limitations is that some versions don't include virtual desktops like on macOS and Linux. That means juggling all your open apps and windows on a single screen. Here, VirtuaWin adds this functionality.
In our opinion, the interface feels too bare-bones, since VirtuaWin doesn't provide a visual overview of your desktops — instead, you right-click the icon in the system tray to see a list. We also repeatedly saw this error on our PC with Windows 7 64-bit: “Failed to register hotkey.” More technical users may still like the program, as there are many settings to tweak.
We also recently took a look at Finestra Virtual Desktops. This is likely a better option for most people thanks to its clearer interface, and you can switch desktops by moving the mouse to the edge of the screen.
