In recent years, we have got a little backwards from both Swedes, Norwegians and Dutchmen on internet speed, but now it appears that there are brighter times on the way after a few political announcements.

Status on fiber networks in Denmark

In recent years, Waoo has taken a big step towards getting Danes into faster internet connections. Waoo is a group of a number of Danish power companies, and a major investment in fiber networks. Today, they have over 600,000 Danish households connected to their fiber lines. A good portion and a good step in the right direction.

I live in Aarhus, and there has been no opportunity to connect to the fiber network in many parts of the city until recently. For example. Åbyhøj and the whole Silkeborgvej have had to go with the copper wire broadband show the TDC network. This has meant that many have been sitting on an overloaded network, and there has been no help getting by switching to another provider, as they all used TDC's network. Silkeborgvej is one of the five main roads to and from Aarhus.

It is also a fact that the few Danes realize that many of the existing ISPs actually use TDC's old copper cables to their connections, so the only companies that are actually competing are price and bandwidth.

If you have an unstable connection, then there is not much help switching to another provider at the same address. The different providers and their rates / prices for broadband and fiber networks can be viewed at netkablet.dk.

Now Waoo has linked many to a fast and fine fiber network, but lately, the trend has stagnated as Waoo has already connected the larger cities and there is not much scam for them to be economically economical in laying fiber networks to the smaller ones cities in the province, as it is costly and a slow and expensive affair.

It's a big problem and a challenge that has to be politically challenged to push things up, as it is apparently not profitable for the private to further spread the network.

New political tones

Now, however, there are apparently several of the politicians who have begun talking about making a public investment for the digging of new cables with fiber networks, and that is a very good development. It is natural that the focus will be on the next parliamentary elections, which, as you know, will soon be printed, but it is, of course, both good and bad that it is happening right now.

On the one hand, it is nice to see that political attention is being paid to this and that it is expected to be able to reap crucial votes among the Danish population, but on the other hand, it is fearful that it is merely a choice and hot air, as it is often the case for a choice.

Let's just hope that the internet speeds will come across politically soon, so we can connect the rest of Denmark to speeds worth talking about in 2015. For pt. it is shattering in many of the smaller municipalities and cities, especially West Jutland, it's a bit hard.

Nordjylland, on the other hand, is good at the company Bredbånd Nord has done a lot of work to get the smaller cities, and especially the Tranum project has gained attention from around the world, and here local politicians have shown what is possible for a small town.

This small gap has the world's fastest internet per capita, and even hits Google's hometown of Kansas City, which has otherwise been the world's fastest Internet speed until Tranum signed up on the pitch.

Check the speed of your network

The Danish Enterprise Agency has launched a tool that can check the speed of your network and also provide you with an overview of which ISPs you can use in your area. You can see the tool on this page.

However, as you notice, you should take it with a spruce salt if you are in a cottage area. There is usually something slower and a bit more expensive. You can usetradlos-adsl-internet-i-sommerhuset / "> this guide to the internet in the cottage.
