As you probably know, Windows includes a built-in search tool. Functionally, however, it’s limited to keep things simple for non-technical users. FileLocator Lite is a free, more powerful alternative.
In our test, the installation completed without issues on a PC with Windows 7 64-bit installed. The interface isn’t the best we’ve seen, but it includes plenty of useful features. For example, you can search by file name, text inside documents, file types and size, recently changed files, and more. The search process takes time depending on the size of your hard drive, but in our testing it was generally fast.
Overall, we recommend FileLocator Lite to everyone. Beginners will also appreciate the built-in help file. There’s also a Pro version with more features on the developer’s website, which costs about $35.
