NexusFile is a free Windows file manager that aims to compete with Windows' built-in File Explorer. Read our review and download it here.

We have previously looked at excellent apps from developer xiles, including NexusImage and NexusFont. This time we tested NexusFile for Windows, a free program for anyone seeking something better for managing files than File Explorer. Installation is as simple as extracting the downloaded ZIP file to any location on your PC — which also makes NexusFile portable on a USB drive.

The interface, featuring a black background with colorful text and icons, didn't impress us much — though many elements can be customized in the program's settings. Unfortunately, there is no help guide on the developer's website. Since NexusFile also resembles an FTP client, it's likely aimed at more experienced users who want a wealth of features — including quick access to folders with keyboard shortcuts, FTP support, and the ability to work with ZIP, RAR, and more.

Overall, we're not thrilled with the user interface. And with no manual for new users, we can only recommend NexusFile to more experienced users.
