PopClip for Mac 1.4.9

PopClip for Mac gives you quick access to your clipboard, and you can enhance the app by installing extensions. Try it free by downloading the demo.

We previously took a look at Dropshelf for Mac from Pilotmoon Software, which really impressed us. Now we’re reviewing PopClip, another Mac app from the same developer. Users with OS X Snow Leopard or later can buy the full version in the Mac App Store for $5, but you can also download a free trial version here on this page.

In short, PopClip appears with a small menu when you select text. Out of the box it gives you access to search and clipboard actions, but the great thing about PopClip is that you can install extensions by clicking the icon in the menu or visiting this website. In our test it took just two clicks and a few seconds to install Wikipedia and Google Translate, but there are many others for your favorite services, including Facebook, Twitter, WolframAlpha, and more.

You can also personalize a few things in the app’s settings. For example, you can change the appearance by adjusting the size and language, and choose whether it should launch automatically at startup. It’s also easy to remove extensions if you’re not satisfied with them.

At first we weren’t particularly impressed by PopClip’s simple functionality, but after installing a few add-ons you quickly realize the app’s potential. Although the demo is limited to 150 uses, it includes the full feature set, so you can easily try it before buying the full version.
