Ancients – Deathwatch

Ancients – A classic fantasy RPG with charm and deadly labyrinths.

In Ancients, you assemble an adventuring party of four, each with their own class and role in the group. Choose from classic fantasy professions like warrior, cleric, thief, and wizard, and balance strength, magic, and cunning as you face the dangers waiting beyond the city walls.

You begin in a small town where you can trade, buy gear and magical potions, and prepare for the adventure ahead. Once you leave the town, labyrinthine dungeons, traps, loot, and monsters await—all presented in a period-authentic first-person dungeon crawler style.

Originally released in the early ’90s, it was known for its 256-color VGA graphics, which were impressive for the time. Today it comes across as simple yet atmospheric, with turn-based battles, inventory management, and old-school charm.

Ancients isn’t as deep as some of the major RPG series, but for fans of Eye of the Beholder, Might & Magic, and similar titles, it’s a cozy throwback that can deliver many hours of retro adventuring.
