Disk Inventory X, available as a free download, is a disk space analyzer that shows a visual breakdown of the files and folders on your Mac.
We recently reviewed GrandPerspective til Mac, which can create so-called “treemaps” of your hard drive. While its strength is a simple interface, more technical users may want additional functionality—something Disk Inventory X for Mac delivers.
After you choose a folder or drive to scan, Disk Inventory X builds a graphical treemap made up of boxes in different sizes and colors. This makes it incredibly easy to get a quick overview of what’s taking up space. On the left, Disk Inventory X lists your files, and you can, for example, easily change the colors assigned to different file types.
Although Disk Inventory X isn’t quite as elegant as GrandPerspective, it offers a few more features that many users will appreciate.
