Skim for Mac 1.4.8

With Skim for Mac, a free download, you can read and edit PDF files.

Skim is a free PDF reader that also includes more advanced features, such as the ability to annotate files with notes, shapes, and more. Because it’s open-source, you can download it completely free. We tested Skim on a MacBook Pro running OS X Mavericks.

The interface is very straightforward. Skim is arranged into three sections, with thumbnails on the left and notes on the right. At the top of the window, you’ll find tools you can use to annotate documents with notes, circles, boxes, and more. That’s the general idea of how Skim works, but there’s plenty to tweak in the app’s preferences.

That said, while Skim is a good app, the built-in Preview app on macOS can do many of the same things, including editing PDF files. So we wouldn’t necessarily recommend Skim for users who are already satisfied with Apple’s own app.
