Viking Siege – The classic Viking game returns

Viking Siege has been brought back to life by EBro Software and delivers a digital version of one of Scandinavia’s oldest board games. The game is inspired by Hnefatafl, a strategic Viking game played long before chess arrived in Europe.

What makes Viking Siege unique is that it breaks with the conventions of modern board games: here, players have different numbers of pieces and different objectives. One player commands the king and his bodyguards, besieged inside a fortress. The other player controls a much larger army trying to surround and capture the king before he can escape.

The game’s premise is rooted in an Old Norse myth, where a king and his warriors fight for their lives against a superior force. The asymmetric gameplay creates intense tension and tactical depth—and while the rules are easy to learn, the game offers plenty of strategic possibilities.

Blending classic Viking history, simple rules, and refined mechanics, Viking Siege strikes a rare balance: easy to learn, but hard to master.
