Afterfall: Insanity – Post-apocalyptic horror action
Afterfall: Insanity is a Polish-developed action-horror game that throws you into a brutal, post-apocalyptic world. After a cataclysmic nuclear disaster in October 2012, humanity is forced underground into bunkers and sewers, where survival becomes a nightmare of its own.
We tested the game on a Windows 11 PC, and from the first mission it’s clear the atmosphere is its biggest strength. Dark shafts, creaking pipes, and constant noises from unseen enemies make it hard to ever feel safe.
Gameplay and features

The game blends elements of survival horror and classic action. You’ll fight both mutants and human enemies such as mercenaries. Weapons feel brutal, but ammo is scarce, which creates constant pressure. There are also puzzles and objectives that break up the action and add variety.
Graphics and design
The visuals are bleak and industrial, defined by concrete, rust, and dim corridors. Despite releasing in 2011, it still delivers an atmosphere that rivals many newer horror titles. Lighting is crucial, and without a flashlight you’re almost helpless.
Challenges and controls
Controls can feel a bit heavy at times, especially in melee where precision isn’t always ideal. On the other hand, gunplay is satisfying, and enemies feel unpredictable, which heightens the tension.
Strengths and weaknesses
Afterfall: Insanity isn’t a perfect game. There are technical issues and a few visual bugs, but the world and atmosphere are so intense that you quickly forgive them. The story draws you in and keeps the tension from start to finish.
