Free Stocks Ticker

Free Stocks Ticker is a free Windows tool that lets you add one or more ticker bars to your desktop with the latest stock prices and news. Download the software for free.

If you faithfully follow the stock market every day, keep reading! Free Stocks Ticker is a free stock tool for Windows. In short, this software lets you add one or more bars to your desktop where the latest stock prices scroll from right to left. As shown in the GIF below, the bars look a lot like the ones you know from TV-kanaler (TV channels) with breaking news.

Another major advantage of this software is its built-in RSS feature. With this, you can turn Free Stocks Ticker into a news app that shows headlines from all your favorite sites directly on your desktop! For example, anything from DR to The New York Times.

If this is your first time visiting Download.dk, we’d also like to mention that our website is full of smart programs and entertaining games.

Availability and language

One drawback of Free Stocks Ticker is its limited availability. It only works on Windows and unfortunately cannot be installed on other operating systems. If you don’t use Windows, feel free to browse other great programs here on Download.dk. We’ve reviewed lots of software for Mac and Linux.

Based on our testing, we can also report that the software doesn’t support Danish. The program is English-only. Since Free Stocks Ticker is essentially just a news bar, you won’t notice the language much—except when changing settings. You can also easily use the RSS feature with Danish news sites, which you can read more about further down the page.

Getting started

If our review makes you want to try Free Stocks Ticker yourself, getting it running is easy. Just download the installer and run it. To get the file, click the download button below this review and you’ll be taken to the developer’s official website.

You can see what the installation process looked like on our PC by checking the GIF below.

During installation, we chose to create a desktop shortcut to make the program easy to find. It doesn’t make a big difference whether you choose this or not, since you can also find Free Stocks Ticker in the Windows Start menu once setup is complete.

Basic functionality in Free Stocks Ticker

Free Stocks Ticker is very easy to use. When you open the program for the first time, it’s automatically set to show a single bar just above the Start menu with a number of predefined stock quotes. You can see this in the screenshot below.

If you right-click the bar, you can change and tweak various settings, as shown in the next screenshot. For example, if you want different stock tickers displayed, just right-click the bar and choose “Edit Stocks.” For instance, type “META” to show the stock price of Facebook’s parent company, Meta.

You can also choose whether the bar should always stay on top or at the bottom—meaning whether it should sit above open programs or only be visible when you’re on the desktop.

It’s also possible to adjust how quickly the text scrolls from right to left, and there are two built-in news sources by default: CNN and Fox News. If you select one of them, you’ll see news headlines instead of stock prices.

If you want multiple bars or prefer using any news site you like, you can do that in the program settings! You can read more about this in the next section of our review.

Adding multiple tickers and RSS feeds

If you want more bars, that’s absolutely possible—you can add up to 6 lines! Right-click the bar and click “Setup” to open the settings window. Here you can increase the number of bars in the “Number of lines” field and make a range of visual adjustments, such as font size, colors, and transparency. Bars can also be placed at the top of the screen.

If you want to use Free Stocks Ticker to show the latest news but prefer sources beyond the built-in CNN and Fox News, use the RSS feature. You’ll find it under the middle tab in the setup window. Many news sites and blogs offer RSS feeds; in the GIF above, for example, we added an RSS feed from The New York Times. Many Danish outlets such as Danmarks Radio also provide RSS. A quick Google search will usually help you find exactly the RSS link you’re looking for so you can add it to Free Stocks Ticker.

Personally, we think Free Stocks Ticker works best with one or two bars—e.g., one for stock prices and the other for news. With more than two bars, the desktop can start to feel a bit cluttered and distracting, but that’s of course a matter of taste.

We love Free Stocks Ticker

As this review shows, we love Free Stocks Ticker. It’s a rock-solid program that works flawlessly—and it’s completely free. We especially like that it can be used both for the latest stock prices and for fresh headlines from your favorite websites. Aside from making sure your desktop doesn’t get too distracting, we can warmly recommend Free Stocks Ticker to all our users. Enjoy!
