Hannibal – Strategy game about war, resources, and revenge against Rome.

🛡️ Hannibal – A strategy game of war, resources, and revenge against Rome.

Hannibal is a classic turn-based strategy game where you command the Carthaginian forces across North Africa and Europe in a quest for revenge and dominance over the mighty Roman Empire. You begin your campaign in Africa, where smaller nations already fear your name. From there, you must build your army, secure vital resources, and plan invasions that ultimately take you over the Alps — straight into the heart of Rome.

🎮 Gameplay – Build your war machine and plan your moves

In Hannibal, you control different unit types, including:

  • 👣 Infantry – the backbone of your army
  • 🐎 Cavalry – fast flanking units
  • 🐘 War elephants – iconic, fearsome units inspired by Hannibal’s historic campaign

The game is split into a campaign map and battlefields. On the campaign map, you move armies, forge alliances or attack, and manage your economy and resources. When a battle begins, the game switches to a more detailed view where you command troops in real-time or turn-based combat.

You’ll need to balance your resources to both maintain your army and recruit fresh troops. Choose your battles carefully, taking terrain, enemy positions, and your units’ strengths into account.

🌍 From Africa to Europe – An epic campaign

The campaign begins in North Africa and gradually expands to Spain, Gaul, and Italy, following Hannibal’s historic route — including the famous march across the Alps. The game blends fictional scenarios with historical accuracy for an exciting and educational experience.

It’s not only about war — diplomacy and strategy are key as well. You can eradicate your enemies — or shatter their alliances from within.

👁️ Graphics and presentation

The graphics are retro and reminiscent of classic DOS- or Amiga-era strategy games, yet they still hold up today — especially for nostalgic players. The board and map layers are easy to read, and battles are detailed enough to create tension without becoming overly complex.

The music is simple but works well as a backdrop to the game’s epic theme.
