Millennium 4 – Beyond Sunset is the fourth entry in the classic Millennium series, aimed especially at fans of Japanese-inspired RPGs that prioritize story, dialogue, and tactical battles. The series has never been mainstream in the US, but it has built a small, loyal following—especially among players who enjoy classic RPG Maker games and retro PC RPGs.
The game continues the tale in a mysterious, long-lost world, once again following Marine and her party. This time, the clock is ticking: the group has only six days to find the last four warriors before reaching the battlefield to confront the enemy threatening to wipe them out. That time pressure gives this entry a more intense pace than earlier titles.
Story and atmosphere
The narrative is clearly the game’s strongest suit. Millennium 4 emphasizes relationships between characters, and there’s a lot of dialogue. Marine’s little fairy friend Jeanne returns, serving both as comic relief and practical help along the way. The tone is classic JRPG, with fantasy elements, moral choices, and a constant feeling that time is running out.
Gameplay and combat
The gameplay builds on the series’ familiar turn-based combat system. It’s easy to pick up but still requires planning—especially because you don’t have unlimited time to explore every area. The choices you make affect which warriors you manage to recruit and how the story unfolds.
We tested the game on a standard Windows 11 PC, and it ran smoothly with no technical issues. Installation was quick, and the game works well on modern systems, even if its age still shows.
Graphics and audio

The graphics are classic RPG Maker–style with 2D sprites and clear, readable environments. It’s not visually impressive by today’s standards, but it suits the genre well. The audio offers atmospheric music and simple sound effects that support the story without stealing the spotlight.
