Quake 4 — Sci-fi action with heavy firepower and a touch of horror.

Quake 4 takes you back to the fight against the brutal Strogg — a barbaric race of biomechanical aliens that has invaded Earth. As Marine Matthew Kane, the newest member of Rhino Squad, you're thrown straight into an intergalactic bloodbath where your skills — and your humanity — are put to the test.

The game builds on the Quake II universe and delivers a story-driven single-player campaign packed with epic battles, vehicle sections, and intense boss fights. Powered by the id Tech 4 engine from Doom 3, you get dark, metallic environments, dynamic lighting, and an atmosphere that perfectly balances sci-fi and horror.

Your fight against the Strogg threat

🧠 Join a coordinated campaign with allied NPCs
🚀 Pilot hovertanks and mechs through large sections of the game
🔫 Wield a wide arsenal of futuristic weapons
🧬 Get stroggified — and feel the consequences firsthand
🎮 Classic Quake multiplayer with arena-inspired speed

The story takes an unexpected turn halfway through, where you as the player are transformed into a part-Strogg soldier, changing the gameplay and granting access to new abilities. A brilliant narrative and gameplay twist.

Reviewer’s rating with pros and cons, and user ratings

Quake 4 is a strong shooter with a solid story, varied gameplay, and brutal action. It may be the most underrated title in the Quake series – and still worth playing, especially for fans of sci-fi, cyber horror, and classic id Software style.

Pros and cons

✅ Story-driven Quake in single-player (a rarity in the series)
✅ Great graphics and atmospheric audio
✅ Varied gameplay with both on-foot combat and vehicles
✅ Classic Quake multiplayer action
✅ Bridges the gap between Quake II and modern FPS games

⚠️ Linear level design with limited replay value
⚠️ Not as fast as Quake 3 (multiplayer purists may complain)
⚠️ Not the most optimized on modern machines without tweaks
⚠️ Multiplayer isn’t as prominent as in earlier Quake titles
