Download Unpacking and embrace the latest TikTok trend

Our daily lives are often full of clutter and stress that can be hard to escape. That is why the recently released (November 2, 2021) Unpacking was created as a way to tidy and organize in a game that is not about winning or difficulty, but about relaxing and enjoying the cathartic feeling that comes from getting everything neatly in place.

Premise and gameplay

In Unpacking there is a story—about a woman you never actually meet. Instead, you help her unpack every time she moves into a new home with her belongings (eight different homes with various rooms to furnish).

The game is a so-called zen experience, designed to calm you rather than test your speed or throw tough gameplay at you.

You are given a set of moving boxes filled with memories, books, toys, and essential furnishings, and you can place everything where you think it belongs. There are no rules or ticking timers rushing you or punishing you for not playing the way the creators intended. Still, the goal is to put things away properly, so a few rules apply (for example, you cannot just leave clothes scattered on the floor—otherwise the premise would fall apart).

The game taps into social media trends (such as TikTok), where people share satisfying videos of stocking and organizing their homes. Here, you are the one doing the tidying and organizing, matching everything to your own way of doing things.

Visual style (graphics)

The art style is charming and very typical of indie games with pixelated graphics, similar to apps and games like Pixel Art and Tomb Rumble (though both are very different in their gameplay and audience compared to Unpacking).

The rooms are colorful and presented in high quality (HD), despite the pixel-art style.

Also accessible for players with limited mobility

Accessibility is excellent, as it is very disability-friendly. As mentioned, the game is zen-like and relaxing, so you do not need to react quickly to chase points or anything similar. The camera is fixed in one place, you can choose different color options, pause the game, and adjust certain visual elements that may be hard for some players to see. In addition, you can play using only your mouse, and you do not have to hold the mouse button down to complete levels.

Cross-platform availability

The game has been developed so it can be enjoyed by as many people as possible across a range of platforms. Unpacking is available for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One, in addition to the PC version, which you can buy through our link here on the page (at the top of the page and at the bottom of the article).

Conclusion

Unpacking is a relaxing zen game that does not demand the usual challenges most other games do. It progresses at your pace, and there are many different ways to complete each level. You will not get more out of the game by rushing; it actively encourages you to take your time and use it as a soothing, satisfying experience.
