Explore the Moon with Virtual Moon Atlas, available as a free download. There is also a Mac version her.

How much do you know about the Moon? With Virtual Moon Atlas, an open-source and free tool, you can study and visualize the Moon right from your PC or Mac. There is also a version for Linux users, which can be found on the developer’s official website her.

During our test on Windows, Virtual Moon Atlas automatically opened a help file after installation, which is definitely useful for new users. The program itself is very similar to Google Earth, letting you rotate and examine virtually everything on the Moon’s surface, such as crater names, sizes, and locations. That said, it’s probably geared more toward lunar and space experts, who know much more about this topic than we do.

All in all, Virtual Moon Atlas comes across as an intriguing program that we can easily recommend to lunar and space enthusiasts.
