WinPlex (Supaplex reborn in the 21st Century)

WinPlex (Supaplex rebirn in XXI Century) – a classic Supaplex remake

WinPlex is a classic remake of the iconic DOS game Supaplex, which many PC users in the U.S. discovered in the 1990s. The game builds on the original formula with logic-based challenges, precise timing, and levels that quickly test your patience.

The project was created as a tribute to Supaplex and earned a solid reputation among retro fans before development halted.

Gameplay and level design

Screenshot from our WinPlex test showing one of the complex levels with classic Supaplex elements like boulders, gems, and tight corridors where precise timing is critical.

Gameplay in WinPlex is almost identical to Supaplex. You move through levels filled with boulders, gems, enemies, and mechanical traps, where a single wrong move often means game over.

During our review it became clear that WinPlex is uncompromising. There are no hand-holding tutorials, and the difficulty ramps up quickly. It’s exactly the kind of game that rewards patience and repeated attempts.

The game includes more than 2,400 levels, making it one of the most content-rich Supaplex-style titles ever released.

User content and expandability

One of the most interesting features in WinPlex is the ability to add your own levels and sounds. That made the game popular within the Supaplex community, where players shared custom levels and challenges.

In our testing, this alone gave the game extra longevity, even after completing the official levels.

Graphics and sound – uncompromising retro

Visually, WinPlex stays very close to its roots. The focus is clearly on authenticity over modernization. Animations and colors strongly evoke the DOS era, which many retro players will consider a clear plus.

Audio is simple but functional, providing clear cues about what’s happening in the level—something that’s crucial in the tougher stages.

Project status today

It’s important to be honest about WinPlex’s current status:

  • Development has stopped
  • The official website is no longer active
  • There is no official download source today

WinPlex should therefore be considered abandonware. For security and copyright reasons, Holyfile does not link to unofficial or archived downloads.
