Wuchang: Fallen Feathers – Soulslike action in Chinese folklore
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is an upcoming action RPG inspired by the Soulsborne genre. It’s set in chaotic China during the final days of the Ming dynasty, where supernatural forces and plague have plunged society into darkness. You play as Wuchang, a female warrior afflicted by a mysterious feather-borne disease, traveling through blood-soaked villages, ruins, and temples in search of the truth—and her own salvation.
With its atmospheric approach, challenging combat and a deep folklore-driven story, the game is aimed at fans of Dark Souls, Sekiro, Lies of P and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
Gameplay and mechanics: Classic Soulslike with a Chinese twist

Combat in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is brutal and deliberate, with a focus on precision, parries, and stamina. You can choose from multiple weapon types, including swords, axes, and heavier weapons. On top of that, various magical abilities are tied to the “feather curse” afflicting Wuchang.
The system is reminiscent of Sekiro, but with more freedom in weapon choice and exploration. Expect RPG elements such as stat upgrades and gear customization.
Key features:
- Realistic, grim atmosphere across late-Ming China’s architecture and wilderness.
- Melee-focused combat that rewards technique.
- Boss fights against demonic foes inspired by Chinese mythology.
- Moral choices that can change the game’s ending.
Graphics and audio: Moody and richly detailed
The game runs on Unreal Engine 5, and it shows. Trailers highlight realistic lighting, atmosphere-drenched rainforests, and shadowy temples. Character models are detailed, and monsters and bosses are grotesque in all the right ways.
The soundtrack blends traditional Chinese instruments with dark ambient — perfect for the melancholic tone. The sound design supports the constant sense of unease and danger lurking around every corner.
Challenge and progression
Like other Soulslikes, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers demands patience and skill. Mistakes are punished harshly, and healing is limited. Death is part of the learning curve.
Progression comes through stat upgrades and weapon/magic development, but also by uncovering lore elements and side stories. There’s no minimap — you’ll have to navigate the chaos-ravaged land on your own.
