Do you remember Remedy Entertainment’s original Alan Wake, released back in 2010? It earned stellar reviews and is widely regarded as a modern masterpiece! Much of that comes from its dark, Twin Peaks–inspired atmosphere in the small town of Bright Falls, where you guided author and hero Alan Wake through countless mysteries and puzzles. Despite several later DLCs and related games, the story remained unresolved. On October 27, 2023, the adventure finally continued as Remedy Entertainment returned with Alan Wake II! This is a truly chilling survival horror game—perfect for Halloween.

Here at Download.dk, we often test games and software before publishing reviews or articles, but that’s unfortunately not the case with Alan Wake II. The game has only just launched. Even so, we chose to cover Alan Wake II because it’s long awaited and clearly one of 2023’s standout releases! Supported platforms and how to buy

As mentioned, Alan Wake II launched on October 27, 2023. The game supports the following platforms: PC (Windows), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. You can find the specific PC system requirements on Epic Games’ website at dette link, and there’s no doubt Alan Wake II is built for modern hardware. The reason, of course, is a massive graphical upgrade compared to the 2010 original.

At the time of publication, you could choose between a Standard Edition and a Deluxe Edition, the latter costing more and bundling a range of bonus content. Unfortunately, there’s no free demo to try before you decide to purchase, but you can, of course, browse the screenshots on this page. 

We know many still love physical media, but Alan Wake II is digital-only. In other words, you can’t buy a retail box with a disc—which is a shame, as it’s always nice to display your favorite games on a shelf for everyone to see.

The horror continues 13 years later

Mystery and unresolved threads are central to the Alan Wake series. For that reason, the story was never truly concluded. Don’t expect every answer in Alan Wake II either, but we’re sure it will be a key piece of the larger puzzle! As you may remember from the earlier games, the protagonist and author Alan Wake was trapped in the so‑called Dark Place, and 13 years later you can finally learn whether he escapes the darkness!

The sequel also introduces a new lead character: FBI agent Saga Anderson, shown above. Alongside Alan Wake, you’ll control her for large portions of the game. That means the story unfolds from two perspectives. We think that’s exciting—and it’s great to see the developer pushing forward with fresh ideas.

Compared to the original Alan Wake, the horror feels significantly dialed up, so we definitely don’t recommend Alan Wake II for children or the faint of heart. Is Alan Wake II a new masterpiece?

One of the big questions is whether Alan Wake II can live up to the original, which many now consider an all‑time classic. The early answer seems to be a resounding yes! As of November 2023, Metacritic shows a Metascore of 88/100 for Alan Wake II—meaning it has been very well received by most critics. If you loved the first game, there’s no doubt Alan Wake II is one of 2023’s most important releases! Here’s hoping you finally get answers to those lingering mysteries 13 years later!

If you’ve never played the original Alan Wake, it’s not too late. In 2021, Remedy Entertainment remastered and re‑released it as Alan Wake Remastered.
