Night City - A beautiful city straight out of a nightmare
You’ll spend most of your time in Cyberpunk 2077 in the city of Night City. Night City is everything you want a city of the future to be—and everything you fear it might become. Skyscrapers pierce the sky, towering over you wherever you go.
Ads for every product you can imagine are constantly playing on massive screens, and fast, loud cars race past you at every corner. All the new, advanced technology in this world is thrown at you right away.
The city is diverse, taking you from luxurious penthouses to ghettos and central public squares buzzing with life. The area outside the city is more bleak—a harsh, unforgiving desert where rebellious elements make their home.
Hundreds of unique NPCs go about their daily routines as you play, making the world feel alive, dynamic, and engaging. It’s clearly one of the game’s strengths.
The story and all its facets
Without revealing too much of the overall plot, Cyberpunk 2077 has you play as V. V is a kind of outlaw mercenary in Night City, taking on all kinds of jobs for the right price. V mysteriously ends up with the personality of a long-dead rock star and anti-capitalist, known as Johnny Silverhand, embedded in their head. Together, the two of them try to find a solution to this problem.
Beyond the main story, there are hours of side missions you can tackle at your own pace. They all help shape the world around you, because your decisions truly affect the lives of the people you interact with. A choice you make early on can, 25 hours later, end up affecting a later mission in this open world.
Character progression
Like any great RPG, Cyberpunk 2077 features a deep, engaging progression system for your character. By completing missions or defeating enemies, you earn XP to level up. You’ll receive points to invest in building your character, which can dramatically transform your playstyle depending on your choices.
Beyond the leveling system, you also have access to implants, which are commonplace among the people of Night City. They can grant powerful bonuses that help in many different situations. Each unique implant reshapes how you approach missions, as you quickly learn how effective it is to play to your character’s strengths.
Mind-blowing graphics
Cyberpunk 2077 has its mechanics and storytelling dialed in on many levels. When we dive into the technical side, the same holds true for the graphics. The visuals are, to put it mildly, out of this world.
It truly feels like you’re walking through a world that could be real. Shadows and lighting simulate the day–night cycle perfectly, and the surfaces and animations are dynamic and uncannily lifelike. If the visual experience is important to you, you won’t be disappointed here.
