YouTube – The world’s largest free streaming service.
The essential platform for video, music, and live content.
YouTube is, without comparison, the world’s largest streaming service—and for good reason. Here you get millions of videos, songs, documentaries, movies, gaming streams, and much more—completely free. The service has existed since 2005 and is now owned by Google, which has continuously expanded the platform’s features, interface, and monetization model.
YouTube differs from traditional streaming services like Netflix, Viaplay, and Disney+ because all content is uploaded by users and businesses themselves. In other words, you can be both a viewer and a creator. That also means quality varies—from home videos to professional film productions.
Interface and user experience

YouTube offers a simple, modern, and lightning-fast interface. Whether you watch via browser, app, or Smart TV, you get an intuitive experience, with the home page adapting to your interests.
In our test, playback was stable, and the algorithm surfaced relevant content after just a few minutes of use. You can easily create playlists, subscribe to channels, like videos and save them for later.
There are ads, though—often two before and mid‑roll—which can be distracting. You can remove them by upgrading to YouTube Premium.
Content: From cat videos to documentaries and movies
What makes YouTube unique is the sheer amount and variety of content. You’ll find everything from music videos, tutorials, and podcasts to free feature films and documentaries. Many official film studios and TV networks have their own channels where they post trailers and select productions.
There’s also a growing collection of free movies under the “Movies & TV” section (or “Film” in Danish), which you can watch with ads—similar to Rakuten TV Free.
You can also subscribe to live channels, where you can watch esports, livestreams, news, or concerts in real time.
YouTube Premium – a plus for serious viewers

Although this review focuses on the free version, it’s worth mentioning YouTube Premium. For about $17 per month you eliminate ads entirely and get access to video downloads and YouTube Music—a full music streaming service similar to Spotify.
It makes a big difference if you use YouTube daily and want a smoother experience without interruptions.
