Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty

Dune II – The strategy classic that defined a genre.

Before Command & Conquer and StarCraft, there was Dune II. Released by Westwood Studios in 1992 and based on Frank Herbert’s iconic sci-fi universe, Dune II laid the groundwork for the modern real-time strategy (RTS) genre as we know it today.

In Dune II, you choose to fight for one of three houses: Atreides, Ordos, or Harkonnen – each with its own strengths, units, and strategies. Your goal is clear: gain total control of the desert planet Arrakis, the only source of the valuable substance spice melange.

Build bases, harvest spice, produce units, and defeat your enemies in tactical battles while managing your resources and leveraging the terrain to your advantage. Battles play out across different maps as you gradually take over more and more of the planet’s surface.

The game is packed with strategic depth and iconic audio and visual styles that still spark nostalgia for longtime fans. And even though it’s over 30 years old, Dune II can still be played via DOSBox, and it holds up surprisingly well as a retro RTS.
